BomberBlitz.com Exclusive Interview - Kane Lucas
By Awesome Scotty
BomberBlitz: Who was your footy idol growing up and why?
Kane Lucas: It’s a bit weird growing up I didn’t have any specific footy idol!
BB: Who do you barrack for, and where do you want to go?
KL: I currently lean towards Colllingwood and the Eagles, but really don’t mind where I end up.
BB: What is your preferred position on-field and why?
KL: Through the midfield. Because I believe I have the greatest impact when playing there and I am a natural ball winner.
BB: Why you would like to come to Essendon that distances it from its rivals.
KL: Obviously being situated in the home of football, playing at the MCG and their current young team stick out.
BB: Did you have any injuries this season?
KL: Fortunately I had no major injuries this year which disrupted my preparation.
BB: Are you nervous about making the transition from to the AFL?
KL: I think more excited than nervous at the moment, playing senior football with East Fremantle last year helped to get a feel of what it’s like to play against men and the tempo ect, so I’m just looking forward to challenges ahead.
BB: Who do others say you play like?
KL: I think a few people have linked my playing style to Scott Pendlebury with the exception of a few differences.
BB: What would you say are you’re greatest strengths?
KL: Uncontested and contested possessions. Speed and endurance.
BB: What areas do you reckon you could improve on?
KL: Improvements- Kicking – better field kicking (better efficiency) and opposite foot. Tackling – desire to impact play with tackling.
BB: What would your top 3 goals be once you’re drafted to an AFL club?
KL: That’s a tough one, probably get the most out of pre-season and get as physically and mentally ready as possible for round 1 whether I’m playing AFL football or not.
BB: What was it like getting an AIS scholarship for AFL?
KL: The AIS/AFL scholarship was really beneficial to my football and probably more importantly myself. I learnt a lot about mental preparation, as well as physical and the detailed level of professionalism needed to make it to the next level.
