Essendon will be without Mark McVeigh for this Friday night’s blockbuster clash with Carlton after being handed a one-match suspension for striking.

McVeigh was charged with intentionally striking Demon defender Jared Rivers during the third quarter of last Friday night’s match at Jihad Stadium.

He pleaded guilty immediately and accepted the one-match ban, rather than fight the charge at the tribunal and risk a two-game suspension.
